Electricity Department of Daman and Diu has been notified as the State Designated Agency (SDA) for the districts of Daman and Diu.
SDA Daman & Diu is statutory bodies set up by U.T Administration under section 15 of the Energy Conservation Act, 2001 to implement energy conservation and energy efficiency measures at U.T level and are expected to play the roles of a developmental agency, a facilitator and a regulator / enforcing body.
SDA Daman & Diu is the designated agency at U.T level and need to coordinate and cooperate with Bureau of Energy Efficiency, MoP, GoI at the central level to ensure a smooth and speedy implementation of the EC Act 2001 in the country.
SDA Daman & Diu is responsible to develop and implement Energy Conservation Action Plan (ECAP) based on a uniform template evolved for taking measures necessary to build institutional and human capacity.
SDA Daman and Diu have an important role to play particularly in creating public awareness and enforcement of the EC Act,2001 at the grass root level.
SDA of Daman and Diu is working with great zeal in order to achieve the ambitious targets set by BEE.
With the present situation of energy crisis, fossil fuels (coal, oil & natural gas) potential is unable to meet the current energy demands and as we know that energy is the life line of growth in any economy that’s why energy saving is very important. Our country’s per capita energy consumption is 325.1 million tones oil equivalent which is very low as compared to the industrialized countries but the energy intensity is very high.
We can easily narrow the gap between demand & supply and decrease the energy intensity in each sector by simple approach towards energy conservation and efficiency through energy efficient technology and housekeeping habits.
In India major energy intensive sectors which are as follows having an average potential of 20 – 25% of energy savings. The sector wise saving potential would be Industrial (up to 25 %); Agriculture Sector (up to 30 %); Transport, Domestic Commercial and Municipal Sector (<20 %).
